Moores appoints mental health first aiders

Looking for prioritise the health and wellbeing of its employees, kitchen manufacturer Moores has appointed two of its staff members to be mental health first aiders.

Longstanding Moores employees Mark Frier and Shenaz Akhtar have both undertaken training by certified mental health care partners, and are now equipped to offer additional support to their colleagues.

Moores says that both Frier and Akhtar have developed skills needed to connect Moores employees with appropriate resources, as part of an initiative to provide early intervention and support for employees awaiting professional assistance.

The mental health first aid scheme is being spearheaded by Hannah Conway, Moores HR business partner. “At Moores, we recognise that our colleague’s wellbeing is fundamental to their personal and professional success,” she said, adding, “we are truly committed to health and safely, and as ROSPA winners, we genuinely understand that good physical and mental health is key to maintaining a happy and productive workplace.”

Frier is a twilight manager at Moores, with over 25 years of experience at the company. “Helping others is something I truly enjoy. Guiding someone through tough times and seeing them regain control and make progress on their journey is incredibly rewarding for me,” he said.

Similarly, Akhtar, who is a customer care co-ordinater, commented: “To me, this role is all about listening and supporting my fellow team members wherever I can and recognising the importance in talking about how we feel.”

Michael Barrett, Moores CEO, says the company is looking to change the narrative around mental health and support staff members who need support. He added: “This is why we have introduced our mental health first aiders these are just some of the steps that we will take to create a safe, understanding and supportive working environment.”
