The UK division of German bedroom furniture manufacturer Nolte Möbel has entered administration, after its parent company filed for insolvency.
Nolte Möbel UK first filed to appoint administrators last month. Following this, Nick Cusack and Paul Bailey of Bailey Ahmad Ltd were appointed co-administrators of the UK arm of Nolte Möbel on May 2.
This follows months of insolvency proceedings from its German parent company, which officially announced its closure at the end of April 2025, which will affect the company’s 250 employees.
Prior to the administration, Nolte Möbel specialised in fitted furniture such as shelving, wardrobes, shoe racks, lighting, mirrors and drawer blocks.
Nolte Möbel separated from well-known kitchen supplier Nolte Group in 2020. As a result, this administration affects only the Nolte Möbel business, and has no impact whatsoever on the wider kitchen-focused Nolte Group or its subsidiary companies.
The company has been struggling financially ever since it split from the wider Nolte Group. For example, during the pandemic, it reportedly wrote off several million pounds of company debt.
According to the local trade press, parent company Nolte Möbel GmbH & Co. KG first filed for insolvency in November 2023. Despite attempts to restructure the business in the time since, the business, which was founded in 1955, was never able to recover.
As reported by French trade publication Meuble Info, the parent company will cease operations completely in July, assuming a buyer cannot be found for the business before that time. The company’s final orders are said to be being completed by the remaining employees over the next few weeks.
German daily newspaper Die Rheinpfalz quoted Nolte Möbel’s court-appointed legal receiver, Steffen Rauschenbusch, as saying that April was a “disastrous” month for the company, blaming the difficult market conditions and unstable geopolitical climate.
