The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued warnings for heat pump dryers made by several appliance brands, with consumers warned to stop using them entirely due to fire safety risks.
The OPSS says the warnings have been issued to 27 different appliance models – all of which appear to have been manufactured in Turkey – with affected products being manufactured by Hoover, Candy, Haier, Lamona, Baumatic, Montpellier, Iberna and Caple.
According to the organisation, the products do not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. Specifically, it said: “The products present a risk of fire as it is possible for an internal short circuit to occur within the tumble dryer during normal use. This can cause the tumble dryer to ignite, causing a fire.”
The related appliance manufacturers are said to have initiated a modification programme, with impacted consumers warned to stop using the products immediately and contact their appliances’ manufacturers for the modification to take place. The OPSS has gone so far as to advise the products to be switched off and unplugged, if the plug is accessible.
Consumers can check whether they have an affected product by examining their model number and serial number. The impacted models are:
