After the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) issued fire safety warnings for certain heat pump dryer models, appliance and kitchen products manufacturer Caple says it is contacting retailers and consumers about the new advice.
Responding to the news, Caple issued a statement which said: “This is an ongoing safety notice, and we have been contacting customers since mid -January.
“The advice from the OPSS has changed from its original advice, hence the notice has had to be adjusted to reflect this change, and the message is being reinforced. (Customers should NOT use the machine until it’s been inspected).
“We are recontacting any retailers and consumers that have not replied to the first round of notices, with the updated advice and every effort is being made to ensure the inspections and any subsequent modifications are done as quickly as possible.
“Information can be found here. We have also reshared on our social media channels.”
As well as just Caple products, the OPSS also issued warnings for heat pump dryers manufactured by Hoover, Candy, Haier, Lamona, Baumatic, Montpellier, Iberna, warning that an internal short circuit issue could cause the products to catch fire.
Along with the company statement, Caple managing director Danny Lay praised the industry trade press for raising awareness about the latest OPSS advice. He said: “We’d like to thank George [Dean] for his efforts in bringing greater visibility to this issue.
“His involvement has not only re-highlighted the situation; it will also play a role in accelerating the resolution process for the customers. We really appreciate the support and assistance in getting this message circulated.”
