Unsung Hero of the Year 2026

Sponsored by Häfele.

The kbbreview Retail & Design Awards is all about celebrating the very best of independent KBB retail – and now we want to shine a spotlight on those who have perhaps never had the recognition they truly deserve.

The Unsung Hero of the Year award honours the people whose dedication, passion and commitment make an extraordinary difference every single day. This awards celebrates the individuals who don’t always take centre stage, but without whom the show simply wouldn’t go on.

The winners will be announced at the gala black tie event on Monday, March 2 at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole.

Sam Harris, Ashford Kitchens & Interiors

Over the past two years, Sam Harris has endured profound personal hardships, including losing both parents and adjusting to life as a first-time parent.

Despite this, he has remained a pillar of support for his colleagues, training new starters, contributing to marketing initiatives, and maintaining high standards in design and customer care.

His professionalism and creativity benefit both the team and clients alike, reinforcing Ashford Kitchens’ reputation for excellence.

Ned McCallum, Kitchens Bespoke

For over 10 years, Ned McCallum has been central to Kitchens Bespoke Ltd’s installation projects, bringing exceptional craftsmanship and a calm, reassuring presence.

From mentoring younger fitters to going above and beyond for clients – feeding pets, managing complex installations, or creating bespoke elements at his own workshop – Ned consistently ensures projects are completed to the highest standard.

Customers trust him implicitly, often requesting his involvement in future projects, while colleagues rely on his experience and guidance.

John Sheppard, J Sheppard And Son

John Sheppard is a legendary figure at J Sheppard And Son Ltd, still actively contributing on-site and in design despite being 77 and living with lifelong cancer.

His decades of experience make him the go-to person for advice, while his work ethic and dedication to customer service set the standard for the whole team.

John’s unwavering commitment, hands-on problem-solving, and mentorship ensure that both colleagues and clients benefit from his expertise every single day.

Joanne Worrall, Coalville Kitchens

Joanne Worrall is the calm, steady force behind Coalville Kitchens Ltd.

Joining the company with no prior KBB experience, she has mastered every aspect of the business, from managing orders and installations to supporting colleagues and maintaining client relationships. Her attention to detail, reliability, and genuine care ensure every project runs seamlessly, turning potentially stressful processes into effortless experiences for both clients and the team.

Joanne embodies the essence of an Unsung Hero, delivering consistent excellence behind the scenes without seeking recognition.
