KBB furniture retailer John Lewis of Hungerford has been rescued out of administration in a pre-pack deal, with the company acquired by Rebecca Taylor Associates Limited – a business also owned by one of Hungerford’s directors.

Andreas Arakapiotis and Simon Wall of bk plus were appointed joint administrators of John Lewis of Hungerford earlier this month, on 7 July 2026.

Confirming the news, bk plus said: “Unfortunately, given rise in costs of manufacturing and the continued cost of living crisis, trading conditions remain very tough and margins continued to be eroded. Following a sales process, parts of the business were sold via a pre-packaged administration sale safeguarding 22 jobs.

“The Joint Administrators are working with their appointed agents to maximise realisations in respect of the remaining assets for the benefit of creditors.”

Unfortunately, bk plus confirmed that 21 people were also made redundant as a result.

Founded by John Lewis in 1972, John Lewis of Hungerford grew into one of the UK’s largest independent premium kitchen retailers. The company floated on the OFEX stock exchange in 1997, with founder John Lewis remaining closely involved in the business for another two decades before stepping down from the board in 2017. At its peak, the business operated more than 10 showrooms across the UK, primarily in London and the South of England.
