Emergency services declared a major incident over the weekend after the Kitchen and Bathroom Store showroom in Luton burst into flames, which also saw dozens of nearby homes evacuated.
According to Bedfordshire Fire & Rescue Services, 10 fire engines, three aerial platforms, two water carriers and an incident command unit were sent to the showroom on Selbourne Road shortly after 6:00 am on Saturday Augist 15, where they begun work to tackle the huge inferno.
Upon arrival, the fire was said to be “extremely developed”. Residents of nearby Wingate Road were evacuated, and locals were also asked to keep their doors and windows closed to avoid the smoke.
According to the BBC, one firefighter is believed to have suffered a minor injury at the scene, but was able to receive treatment on-site.
The fire was extinguished around noon. However, the fire service remained at the scene of the incident overnight working to dampen hotspots and extinguish any remaining pockets of fire.
Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service also warned people in the area that they may notice low water pressure in the wake of the fire, as a result of the water needed by emergency services.
Discussing the incident, Bedfordshire Fire & Rescue Services said: “This has been an excellent multi-agency response to a dynamic incident and we thank all our partners for their support and ongoing work., particularly our neighbouring fire and rescue services who provided resources during this busy period for the fire service nationally.”
Now safely under control, the emergency services say they are launching a joint investigation between the fire department and police to determine the cause of the fire.
This news comes just weeks after Horizon Kitchens’ showroom and workshop was also destroyed in a fire and explosion in Essex.
