Simple add‑on, big returns: HBH Woolacotts sees early food waste disposer sales success
One of the South West’s largest independent electrical and appliance retailers is enjoying new success after adding food waste disposers to its offering earlier this year.
HBH Woolacotts introduced InSinkErator products at the start of February 2026 and is already seeing the benefits through consistent sales.
When specifying products in kitchen designs, the business now estimates that 20–25% of kitchens are sold with a food waste disposer, and this figure is expected to rise significantly over time, explains HBH Woolacotts Director, Chris Hemmerle.
He said: “The new changes to recycling and the introduction of separate waste streams in households have only recently been implemented in our area, so this is the single biggest selling point and conversation starter when it comes to food waste disposers.
“People are very receptive to the product as a complementary solution, particularly in urban areas. Aside from the new recycling changes, the convenience and sustainability aspect of the product makes it attractive to customers.”
Chris continued: “We are definitely seeing consistent increases in sales since adding them to our offering and we are expecting this momentum to continue as more people discover that we sell them. Generally, a food waste disposer is a very simple add on.”
InSinkErator food waste disposers are now displayed prominently across HBH Woolacotts’ three flagship stores, with working products in each location.
“Everyone has the same challenges within kitchens, therefore the products are for everybody, and we’re seeing the heavy majority of people we speak to are interested in learning more,” Chris explained.
New food waste recycling schemes were introduced in England earlier this year and are beginning to reshape how households and businesses manage their food waste. With the changes being implemented across the country, the topic has become a more prominent conversation in recent months.
Chris concluded: “In my opinion it’s an absolute no-brainer. It’s a simple add-on sale that customers are becoming more aware of and ultimately, it’s a market that we only see growing in the near future.”
KBSA announces host and keynote speaker for its KBB Industry Conference 2027
Emma Crosby and Sarah Willingham, confirmed as the KBSA KBB Industry Conference, returns in May 2027.
The KBSA has confirmed part of the line-up for its 2027 KBB Industry Conference, with broadcast journalist Emma Crosby hosting the day and entrepreneur and investor Sarah Willingham delivering the keynote speech. The event takes place on Thursday 13 May 2027 at The Belfry Hotel and Resort in the Midlands.
It is the first KBSA conference since the association moved the event from its traditional autumn slot to spring, a change designed to give retailers a date that does not compete with product launches, the German exhibitions and the run-up to Christmas trading.
Emma Crosby will chair the conference programme. A Sky News and CNBC presenter, she fronted Channel 5’s flagship news programme for five years and co-anchored GMTV.
She began her career in business journalism at CNBC in London and New York, and covered the 2008 financial crisis as business correspondent for Sky News, where her team won a BAFTA for its coverage of the Glasgow Airport attack. She moderates conferences and hosts awards for organisations including Barclays, HSBC, BP, Virgin and the IoD.
Sarah Willingham will give the keynote speech. She led international growth for PizzaExpress and Planet Hollywood, bought Bombay Bicycle Club and built it into the UK’s largest Indian restaurant chain, and co-founded Neutrahealth, which she took public.
She invested on BBC Two’s Dragons’ Den, where her backing of Sublime Science produced one of the programme’s most successful exits, and she now chairs the Tonkotsu restaurant group. Her session will speak directly to the growth and margin questions facing independent retailers.
Luke Wedgbury, KBSA interim chair, said, “We have booked two people who know how to hold a room and, just as importantly, know how to make a business audience think. Emma will keep the day sharp and Sarah has actually built and sold the kind of businesses our members are trying to grow, so will provide invaluable advice. Moving to May gives retailers a date they can plan around, and this line-up is the reason to put it in the diary now.”

Hoover backs championship-leading British driver Thomas Holland
Hoover is backing emerging British motorsport talent Thomas Holland as the British GT Championship enters its final stages, with the young driver currently tied at the top on 127 points heading into the final race at Brands Hatch.
The partnership has seen Hoover support Holland throughout the season, with the brand’s distinctive logo featuring on his race car. Following a dramatic weekend at Donington Park, only the final high-stakes round remains at Brands Hatch. Hoover chose to get behind Holland at an early stage of his career, supporting a driver it believes has the ambition and potential to reach the top of his field.
The collaboration represents a natural fit between two performance-led worlds, with both Hoover and motorsport sharing a focus on precision, engineering, continuous improvement and high performance. It has also enabled Hoover to become part of the fast-paced world of GT racing where the brand has an opportunity to engage with a passionate fanbase.
Jim McEwan, Managing Director UK & Ireland at Haier UK said: “We saw an opportunity to get behind a British talent at an exciting stage of his journey. This partnership has given us an exciting way to bring those values to life while connecting with the exciting world of GT racing and its passionate motorsport audience.
“There are clear parallels between motorsport and what we do at Hoover. Precision engineering, reliability and performance are essential to success, making this a natural platform to bring those values to life.”
For Holland, the immediate focus is a winner-takes-all showdown. After overcoming a post-qualifying disqualification at Donington Park to fight from the back of the grid to a brilliant second-place finish, he and co-driver Hadley Simpson have taken the championship lead to an exciting tiebreaker finish.
Thomas Holland said: “My focus for the final race is to keep building on the progress we’ve made so far, deliver consistently and give ourselves the best possible chance of finishing the championship at the top. Every race is another opportunity to learn and improve, so I’m really looking forward to the final race.”
Hoover’s British GT car suffered an engine failure at Snetterton, forcing the duo to retire from Race Two. However, the racing duo still sit tied at the top in the championship after winning Race One with the team completing a full engine turnaround in an impressive 36 hours.
Their resilience has defined their season. Following their recent technical hurdles and subsequent podium comeback at Donington Park, the racing duo now sits firmly tied at the top of the championship standings.
The remaining championship calendar will see Holland compete at Brands Hatch on 26–27 September, with the venues providing the backdrop for the final stages of his championship campaign.
As well as supporting Holland on track, Hoover has brought the partnership to life through a programme of activity designed to give customers, partners, employees and motorsport fans greater access to the team and driver.
Throughout the season, the partnership has featured exclusive behind-the-scenes content, race weekend updates, social media activity and opportunities for fans to engage with Holland both at the circuit and online. Hoover has also used the partnership to strengthen relationships with key business partners and keep employees updated on Holland’s progress throughout the championship.
The partnership forms part of Hoover’s wider commitment to sport and provided a new platform for the brand to showcase the engineering, innovation and performance that underpin its products, while supporting an exciting new generation of British sporting talent.
With one race remaining and Holland currently sitting tied at the top in the standings, the focus now turns to whether the emerging driver can maintain his momentum and secure the British GT Championship title at Brands Hatch.
