Gower calls in administrators but rescue could be on the cards

Halifax-based Gower Furniture has filed a notice of intent to appoint administrators, with Interpath Advisory confirming that insolvency practitioners are involved and they expect to conclude a rescue of the business shortly.

However, a source at Gower told kbbreview that the filing was simply part of a wider restructuring of the company’s business portfolio in an effort to tidy up its numerous legal entities. They also confirmed that staff members will not be impacted in any way, and that the business will continue to trade under the new name “Gower Productions”.

Founded 46 years ago, kitchen and bathroom manufacturer Gower was formerly part of Swedish company Nobia. Alteri Investors acquired all of Nobia’s UK business, including Gower Furniture along with sibling kitchen brands Magnet, Commodore, and CIE, earlier this year.

Manufactured in the UK, the business supplies both own-brand and white label furniture to other companies, instead of selling direct to consumer. Gower is also a supplier of kitchens to national UK retailer Wickes.

According to Gower’s most recent accounts, for the year ended 31 December 2024, Gower Furniture employed an average of 134 staff in 2024 – down from 185 in the previous year. The same report noted that the firm’s directors were confident the company was in a strong position in the market and planned to make strategic investments to ensure the business could prosper in future.

In related news, Interpath was also involved with the recent CVA of Gower’s sister business, national retailer Magnet, which was officially approved in July of this year.
