Methven vows to double down on water-saving innovations

Shower and tap manufacturer Methven is marking its milestone 140th anniversary by renewing its focus on water-saving technology, with drought conditions continuing to increase pressure on the UK’s water use.

The company, which was founded in 1886 by Scottish-born George Methven as a brass and iron foundry in Dunedin, New Zealand, began manufacturing taps in 1896. It acquired UK tapware brand DEVA in 2007 before launching Methven in the UK in 2011.

Methven says this year’s widespread droughts have increased public awareness around water efficiency, with rising utility costs and tightening regulatory requirements also accelerating demand for products that reduce water consumption.

The manufacturer says it believes its technology can help customers reduce water use without compromising the showering experience typically associated with low-flow products.

Methven CEO Martin Walker said: “Globally, our commitment to technology leadership remains as strong as ever. As the UK faces increasing pressure on its water resources, we believe we are well positioned to use that experience and expertise to help address these challenges and play our part in creating a more water-efficient future.”

Walker added that water-saving engineering had been “central” to Methven’s success over the years and said the company was well placed to support developers facing stricter requirements.

He said: “Our commitment to engineering water-saving technologies that enhance the user experience has been central to our success.

“As pressure on water resources grows, we are well positioned to help developers meet stricter Part G requirements, future-proof developments and create more sustainable buildings. Our current team in the UK are committed, talented and ready to support our customers in meeting and exceeding water saving targets over the coming years.

“As pressure on water resources continues to grow, we see a significant opportunity for manufacturers, developers and merchants to work together to drive meaningful improvements in water efficiency. We are committed to playing a leading role in that journey.”
