The clients’ existing bathroom was extremely dated with roman pillars and a lot of wood. It had been installed when the house was built by the current owner, but that was many years ago and both the layout and the products were very dated too. They had mentioned that they were keen to change the layout, if that was possible, to achieve a drastic change to the room.

Their brief was quite long and while it is a reasonable-sized bathroom, it is not massive, so a freestanding bath would not fit, but a double-ended back-to-wall bath would create the look they were after and fit in the space.

Behind the bath, we added three tall recesses with 3D tiles at the back and lights built in. These recesses break up the wall and create some extra space for displaying products. We decided to fit
the bath tap with a pull-out handle on the bath ledge.

The toilet was relocated to the outside wall and centralised under the window. The window was changed to one with clear glass and a modern feel. A wall-mounted toilet was installed with a flush-fitted glass flush plate on top of the cistern box.

The soil pipe location could not be changed due to an extension on the outside of the building, so we could not lower the shower waste to create a level-access wet floor. Instead we created a feature shower enclosure with different tiles from the rest of the room.

The ceiling over the shower and toilet area was lowered and an L shape was created for an LED strip facing upwards shining out into the room.

In the shower, a long recess was created with LED light and it has a small return on the left-hand side where products can be stored away out of sight.

There is also a floating seat in the shower area with an LED strip underneath, practical for when you scrub your feet, shave your legs or shower sitting down.

One large, recessed shower head and a hand shower combination holder/outlet makes this an indulgent space.
A double recessed Keuco mirror cabinet with dimmable lights and shaver socket was installed together with a solid surface double basin and two single vanity units with drawers in a dark wood-effect. We also had two wall units installed in the same finish. Under the vanity unit was an LED strip added on a motion sensor – good for use as a night light.

The colour scheme – dark wood with grey and off-white tiles in combination with soft pink walls – makes this a very comfortable, stylish bathroom that meets the brief of modern style and practicality.
