Case study: Serene with style and luxury

Ideas of a steam shower room went out the window when the client fell in love at first sight with Bathrooms by Design’s alternative spa-like bathroom

The client had a very clear vision for this project. Comfort and practicality were important to them and they loved the idea of a contemporary and minimalist spa-like bathroom design.

While initially they wanted a steam shower room, when their designer showed them this design with a walk-in shower you can enter from both sides, and a freestanding bath in the centre of the room, they instantly fell in love.

The StoneKast bath has definitely become one of this room’s key features and creates a very relaxing aesthetic. The unique shape of the bath adds a stylish luxury detail to the room and offers great comfort at the same time.

Another key feature of the room are the hexagon tiles, which create a beautiful and serene palette together with the light grey concrete-style porcelain tiles and stainless steel finish brassware.

Another small challenge was the fact that the boiler needed to be accessible from the bathroom. The boiler has been positioned in the eaves and this threw a bit of a spanner in the works at the early stages of the design process. However, the Bathrooms by Design 3D design software made it very easy to move things around in the space, which allowed the designer to come up with a layout that was feasible and functional.

The sloped ceilings were a challenge when designing this room, but both the designer and clients worked together to maximise the space and create a layout that flows well, is practical, and looks aesthetically pleasing too.

It was important to the client to add some storage into the design, so we suggested a wall-hung basin with a vanity unit underneath. The vanity unit has two drawers and a driftwood finish, which complements the rest of the colour scheme well.

By having both the basin unit and WC wall-hung, we’ve made the room feel bigger. The wall-hung basin unit and WC also made sure that cleaning the bathroom is a lot easier. This was a crucial element of the client’s brief, and so another thing we recommended was to have a brushed stainless steel finish for their brassware. The finish has a slight warm tone, which also blends in well with the chosen tiles and offers some warmth.

Overall the design process was very painless. It certainly helped that the client knew exactly what they wanted and while there were a couple of challenges, their designer did not mind a challenge, and it actually made them come up with a design that was not considered before. It’s a pretty special design and one thing that the client absolutely loved about the design process was the virtual reality experience in our showroom.

At Bathrooms by Design we have developed our own software that allows our clients to walk around in their new bathroom before placing an order. The software also allows us to share the client’s bathroom design via a mobile app, which means they can view it at home and even share it with their family
and friends.
