Amazon eyes Homebase stores

Amazon is looking to acquire a number of Homebase stores that are set to close, according to The Sunday Telegraph.

The online retail giant has been said to be an “aggressive bidder for a tranche of stores” that will be set to close in late 2018 or early 2019.

Homebase creditors will vote on the Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) on August 31. This agreement will include the closure of 42 Homebase stores that will make 1,500 people redundant.

The soon-to-be former Homebase sites are reportedly being looked at for Amazon to become regional depots as a way to aid its distribution network.

Amazon declined to comment on the situation.
