Amdea encourages appliance registration

The Association of Manufacturers of Domestic Appliances (Amdea) has launched a campaign to encourage customers to register their appliances.

According to Government statistics, 49% of the 210 million appliances in the UK have not be registered. It means that more than 100 million appliances are untraceable if there is a recall or safety concerns.

This week (November 14 – 17) is International Product Safety Week, and Amdea wants to highlight the need for customers to register their small and large domestic appliances. Many manufactures accept registrations of products at least 12 years old and customers should register if the appliance is new, second-hand or inherited.

Amdea’s campaign is endorsed by Fire and Rescue Services nationwide, safety and consumer group and provides access to 60 leading appliance brands sold in the UK.

Amdea CEO Paul Hide said: “Registering appliances directly with a wide range of manufacturers is free, easy, and quick. No proof of purchase is needed, whether an appliance is new, already in the home, pre-used, or passed on by family or friends. With rising household costs, we also suspect there may be a growing market for pre-loved electricals and those actively seeking to recycle rather than buy new. These, too, should be registered registermyappliance.org.uk.

“Taking a few minutes to register all appliances allows manufacturers to locate their products, correctly target safety alerts, and make arrangements for free safety advice or repairs if needed.”

Amdea’s registermyappliance.org.uk website links to 60 leading brand. Customers simply click on the brand and fill out the data for the appliance. The website also features a listing of appliance safety repairs and recalls, hints and tips on household safety and recommendations for appliance care.
