Blum Expando T wins German innovation award

The Expando T fixing mechanism from Blum has won a German Innovation Award 2019 from the German Design Council.

It was awarded a gold award in the Excellence in Business to Consumer – Kitchen category.

Blum said that the Expando T impressed the jury with its “innovative spirit, user benefits and cost-effectiveness”.

The Expando T is a fixing mechanism designed specifically for use with thin fronts down to a thickness of 8mm.

The judges said in their summary: “Thanks to the Expando T fixing mechanism, it is now possible for the first time to attach fittings to the thin fronts of lift systems, doors and pull-outs made from a variety of materials, such as MDF, HDF, HPL and veneered chipboard.

“Compatible with fronts from just 8 mm thick, the mechanism is well-designed with a clear concept and is installed with just the two screws provided. The Expando T is a major innovation that opens up new furniture design options and helps to save considerable amounts of material.”

The German Innovation Awards are now in their second year. Blum was among 695 entries this year competing for recognition.
