CMA investigates light fittings sector

The Competitions and Markets Authority (CMA) has launched an investigation into suspected breaches of competition law in the light fittings sector.

The investigation was launched on August 16 and will continue until November, when the CMA will review the evidence and decide whether or not to take matters further.

In a statement, the CMA said it had not yet “reached a view as to whether there is sufficient evidence of an infringement of competition law for it to issue a statement of objections to any of the parties under investigation”.

The CMA has previously issued a fine of £786,688 to bathroom fittings supplier Ultra Finishing in April 2016 for breaching competition law following a two-year investigation into the bathroom industry.

The fine was issued after the supplier was found to be restricting retailers from discounting online prices.

Commercial fridge supplier ITW was also hit with a £2.2 million fine in May by the CMA for “breaking competition law by restricting dealers from offering online discounts”.
