The shortlist for the kbbreview Retail & Design Awards 2020: Lockdown Special has been unveiled.
The contest, devised especially for stuck-at-home designers, was launched near the start of the lockdown.
The brief sees a family of four looking for a new kitchen, master en-suite and kids’ bathroom for their converted lighthouse. There is also a treehouse in the garden that needs a kitchen and living space.
The contest has two categories, one for Concept Design of the Year and another for Under-16s Concept Design of the Year.
The design judges from the 2020 awards are back and have chosen their top five kitchens, top five bathrooms and top five under 16s.
There will be two overall winners – one for the grown ups and one for the Under 16s.
The winners will receive an official trophy identical to those given out at the full ceremony held back at the start of March.
There is also an amazing pool of top prizes donated by suppliers and brands.
“This all started as a throw away suggestion I posted on LinkedIn,” said managing editor Andrew Davies. “But it just seemed to capture something in air and a few days later we had a full brief that was being downloaded by hundreds of people.
“I’ve been amazed by the work everyone has put in and the creativity is just astonishing. This shortlist has been so difficult to narrow down and there are a dozen others that would stand up next to them. Well done everyone, I hope it kept your creative juices flowing and your mind positive in such a trying time.”
The winners will be announced next week.
