Homeowners plan to spend more on improving

The renovations sector is expected to see a boost in 2017, with homeowners planning to spend more.

Research from online home improvement marketplace Plentific.com revealed that almost a quarter of homeowners were planning to spend more this year on home improvements in at least one area of the home.

The areas set to see the biggest increase in investment were flooring (29%), bathrooms, kitchens and interior décor (all at 27%).

Increased spending on the living room and bedroom followed in third place at 25%.

However, coming in bottom on the priorities list were appliances and lighting, with just 17% of homeowners planning to update these.

In London, almost a third of homeowners said they planned to spend more on improving their homes, with a number also planning to invest more heavily when compared to the national average.

In the capital, 38% said they were planning to spend more on their bathrooms this year, followed by flooring (37%) and the living room (36%).

Plentific spokesman Stephen Jury said: “Our statistics illustrate the growing shift in demand for home improvements across the UK. Nearly a quarter of homeowners are upping their budget this year for at least one area of their property with flooring leading the way.”
