Used Kitchen Exchange receives environmental award

Kitchen company Used Kitchen Exchange has received the International Green Apple Awards for Environmental Best Practice in the Products & Recycled Products category.

The award was received at a ceremony held at the House of Parliament, Palace of Westminster in London on November 11.

The company competed against 500 other nominees to take the top spot. The judges highlighted that its service ensures support towards a wider circular economy.

The business promotes profitable regeneration of outgoing kitchens with a complete re-sale service.

The company has experienced ‘exponential’ growth over the past year and has worked in partnership with showrooms nationwide. It has sold hundreds of used kitchens this year, which it claimed demonstrates an ‘appetite’ in the market for a more environmental and ethically sound way of working.

In the next three years, the company aims to save the number of kitchens it would take to fill at least 21 football pitches from becoming landfill.

Founder of Used Kitchen Exchange, Helen Lord commented: “We are delighted to have won such a prestigious national award. We work very closely with our showroom partners and customers, and are proud to be recognised for the ethical and environmental focus that we bring to the industry. We have ‘done well’ by ‘doing good’.

“Our growth plans are bold yet achievable, opening-up mutually beneficial partnerships within the industry and supply chain and well as an extensive digital awareness campaign,” she added. “Our service not only adds real value to their customers’ experience; it also ensures companies have a way of adding a green tick to their environmental and social value policy…. it’s a win-win for everyone.”

Lord has also been announced as a finalist in this year’s Natwest Every Woman awards, which recognises Britain’s top female entrepreneurs. The winners will be announced in December.
