Caesarstone outlines its environmental and social policies

Caesarstone has outlined its commitment to the environment with the release of its first Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report.

The manufacturer of premium quartz surfaces is committing to create ‘a greener and safer future for its employees, customers, partners and communities.’ The report is an extension of the current values of Caesarstone and looks at the company now and looks to the future.

There are four main areas the report covers – sustainable products, environmentally responsible production, health and safety, and social responsibility.

Yuval Dagim, chief executive officer of Caesarstone, said: “At Caesarstone, we are privileged to be part of everyday life in millions of homes worldwide; that is why we are committed to sustainability through continued innovation of our products and greener production processes, while remaining focused on a value chain built on environmental, health and safety practices. Our aim is to inspire a journey of partnership, creativity and to celebrate Life in Stone.

“We are happy with our ESG accomplishments to date and are pleased to have built the framework to achieve our new ESG goals and create a more sustainable future for our company. We believe our success is directly related to how well we take care of our clients, our employees, and our communities.”

Sustainable products section covers a variety of factors from durability of the end surface to reducing materials across the manufacturing process. Caesarstone is working closely with its suppliers to ensure its products are high-quality and long-lasting. Reducing materials in the manufacturing process is another sustainable area and Caesarstone has already made a 50% reduction in the use of certain materials during the process.

Reducing its carbon footprint, styrene emissions, water use and wastage is part of its environmentally responsible production plan. The goals by 2025 is to reduce energy use by 10%, recycle water and reduce its use by approximately 10%, and reduce air pollution levels by 5%.

Caesarstone is committed to conducting its business in compliance with all applicable environmental laws, regulations and permits in a manner that has the highest regard for sustaining the environment in which it operates.

The health and safety targets are focused on continuing to make the working environments safer. Over the last three years there has been a 72% reduction in lost time injuries. Launched in 2019, the Master of StoneTM programme for fabricators is a guide to advise customers and fabricators on a range of health and safety topics.

The programme is able to be accessed in countries including the UK, USA, Canada and Australia and in six languages. It includes a number of online training modules and gives professional know-how and added value content for fabricators. To date, over 2,000 fabricators have signed up to the programme.

Social responsibility covers a number of areas and is committed to creating a positive impact across the value chain for its employees, suppliers, customers, and the communities. Caesarstone aims for its workplace to be ‘friendly, warm, safe and trustworthy.’

Caesarstone is also committing to giving back with its partnership with Camp Quality – an organisation dedicated to improving the quality of life for young cancer patients and their families. Employees will be encouraged to work with local communities in and around the facilities.

The report was created according to Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) and The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG) standards.
