Whirlpool ranked among top equal opportunity employers

The Whirlpool Corporation has been ranked highly for its in inclusionary practices by both the 2019 Disability Equality Index (DEI) and 2019 Diversity Best Practices Inclusion Index.

For the third year in a row, the USA-based company scored a perfect 100% from the DEI for commitment in disability inclusion practices. The index is a joint indicative of Disability:IN and the American Association of People with Disabilities.

“We’ve always taken great pride in creating an inclusive environment where all employees are empowered to succeed personally and professionally every day,” said Carey Martin, senior vice-president and chief human resources officer at Whirlpool Corporation, who is also executive sponsor of employee resource group Awareness of Visible and Invisible Disabilities. “Being recognised as the best place to work for people with disabilities for the third year in a row is a great honour. It confirms that all Whirlpool employees have the opportunity to reach their full potential.”

Whirlpool was also among 15 companies named as a Leading Inclusion Index Company out of 148 participating organisations. The Diversity Best Practices Inclusion Index aims to identify gaps in representation within the workplace and create plans to develop change.

The index gathers data provided by each organisation and measures applicants in three key areas: best practices in recruiting, retaining and advancing employees from underrepresented groups (women, racial/ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, and members of the LGBTQ community); company culture including leadership accountability; and transparency and improvement in year-on-year demographic diversity. Whirlpool scored over 75% in all of these categories.

“We are proud and grateful for this recognition of our inclusion and diversity efforts, as we continue in our commitment to creating a workplace where everyone feels a sense of belonging,” said Camille Cunningham Pierce, senior director of global inclusion and diversity at Whirlpool Corporation.

“We are undoubtedly more successful because of the acceptance and inclusion within our walls. Beyond fostering a positive environment for our employees, inclusion helps ensure that our company, and the products we offer, reflect and meet the needs of the diverse populations we serve around the world.”
