Danesmoor Group raises over £40,000 for Dementia UK

The Danesmoor Group has raised over £40,000 for Dementia UK by successfully completing a sponsored bike ride across Italy.

Ten employees, including CEO Mark Stephenson, from Danesmoor – the parent company of the PWS and Life Kitchens brands – cycled a 400km long route from Rimini to Pisa, in a journey that took over five days to complete.

The fundraising attempt also coincided with what some have called the worst weather Italy has seen in over 200 years. This resulted in the cyclists having to navigate torrential rain and severe flooding as they made their way to their destination.

The company’s chosen charity, Dementia UK, helps fund the work of its admiral nurses, who provide clinical, emotional and practical support to those affected with dementia. Earlier this year, Danesmoor Group announced its intention to support Dementia UK as its chosen charity for 2023.

Explaining the decision, the company’s chief officer Mark Stephenson said: “The last few years have seen the UK go through some of the most challenging and unforeseen economic turbulence, affecting everyone, especially charities. That’s why I wanted to do something to raise vital funds for Dementia UK, a charity that provides specialist support and advice to families who are affected by dementia whilst providing eight riders with an unforgettable opportunity.”

“Over one million people across the UK are expected to be living with dementia by 2025. But while this heart-breaking condition has no cure, support is available through Dementia UK’s specialist Admiral Nurses, who work directly with families affected by all forms of dementia, every single day of the week.”

Gillian Tulip-Gales, area sales manager for Danesmoor, added: “The Tuscan countryside is well-known for its mountainous land, but I don’t think we quite envisaged how tough this would be. It really has been emotionally, physically, and mentally challenging, but nothing more than someone living with Dementia and their families must go through on a day-to-day basis. Finishing the ride to over £40,000 was incredibly bittersweet and I truly hope our efforts this week can go a small way to helping as many people as possible that will be affected by this heart-breaking disease in the future.”
