Appliance giants named among UK’s top employers

BSH, Haier and Whirlpool were among the 112 organisations in the UK named as top employers.

Every year, the certification from the Top Employers Institute is awarded to companies following an HR Best Practices Survey, covering 20 topics across the business and employees lifecycle. These include people, strategy, work environment, talent acquisition, learning, well-being and diversity, equity and inclusion. It evaluated employers across 121 countries and among 2024’s top employers are 112 organisations from the UK.

BSH was among the UK companies awarded Top Employer status. It was the ninth consecutive year that it has received the accolade.

Commenting on BSH’s achievement, Gunjan Srivastava, chief executive of BSH Home Appliances UK and Ireland, said: “BSH’s continued recognition as a Top Employer highlights our unwavering commitment to our employees and our professional development. By consistently prioritising the well-being and growth of our workforce, BSH sets a high standard for the industry and solidifies its position as a leader in the market. I’m delighted that we’ve been named a Top Employer for 2024.”

Haier Europe UK and Ireland was also among the 112 UK companies to be awarded Top Employer status. This was the second year running that it won the accreditation.

Neil Tunstall, managing director for Haier UK and Ireland, said: “We are thrilled to be awarded this recognition for the second year. It demonstrates how incredibly hard our team has worked to ensure that the care, development and well-being of our people is always a priority. This accreditation from the Top Employers Institute is a global recognition of our work and excellence in this area.”

Also commenting on Haier’s achievement, its UK and Ireland HR director Matthew Given added: “This award reflects the tremendous amount of work our UK and Ireland HR and leadership teams have accomplished over the last few years to keep improving colleague experience at Haier Europe. We are delighted that our HR practices have been recognised by Top Employers Institute for the second year in a row and that we have improved our score significantly over the past 12 months. We again sit among a select number of certified companies as one of the UK’s top employers. We are committed to continuing to raise our HR standards to enable us to attract and retain top talent that will shape the future of our organisation and our brands, whilst creating great solutions for our consumers and partners.”

Whirlpool EMEA was also among the Top Employers named for the seventh year running.

Fabio Colombo, Whirlpool EMEA vice-president of human resources, commented: “We are proud that the Top Employers Institute has once again recognised our commitment to creating an exceptional work environment for our employees across Europe. Our dedication to empathy and care ensures that they feel valued, heard and understood, fostering a workplace culture that goes beyond professional success and extends to the personal well-being of each team member.”

Whirlpool added that it has set up an Executive Inclusion and Diversity Council and Employee Resource Groups to underscore its commitment to a “workplace that embraces differences and thrives on inclusivity”. Commenting on 2024’s top employers listing, Top Employers Institute CEO David Plink added: “Exceptional times bring out the best in people and organisations. And we have witnessed this in our Top Employers Certification Programme this year: exceptional performance from the certified Top Employers 2024. These employers have always shown that they care for the development and well-being of their people. By doing so, they collectively enrich the world of work. We are proud to announce and celebrate this year’s group of leading people-oriented employers: the Top Employers 2024.”
