Surface materials distributor IDS is planning to host a series of free training sessions throughout June to help KBB professionals learn more about installing compact laminate worksurfaces.
The one-hour training sessions are being held in partnership with Wilsonart UK, which it says is one of its key worksurface suppliers. The sessions will be carried out by Wilsonart’s technical manager, and will focus specifically on the Bushboard Zenith range of compact laminate worksurfaces.
According to IDS, compact laminate is one of the fastest growing materials in the worktop sector. The training sessions have reportedly been designed to demonstrate how easy it can be to install compact laminate materials using the same tools and equipment as would be used for chipboard worktops.
In addition, the training will also cover best practice on machining, storage, and handling of the material, through live demonstrations.
Jason Neve, IDS’ national business development manager for worktops, hopes that the training will help to dispel ideas that compact laminate is more problematic than other materials for installers to fit.
He explained: “That’s the opposite of the reality. There’s no extra investment needed to buy tools, they can simply use the ones they have already. Compact laminate is an increasingly popular worktop material, being a trade up from standard laminate and a much more cost- effective design alternative to composites and this focussed training will give installers the confidence and skills to add this to their services.”
IDS says that training sessions will be held throughout June across its branch network in Roysth, Gateshead, Leeds, Stoke, Norwich, Woodford, Swindon, Exeter and Nuneaton. Training is open to any installer, designer or retailer in the branches’ surrounding areas, and places can be booked by contacting the branch directly.
In other news, IDS also announced changes to its board of directors earlier this year, with three new appointments being named.
