Lighting case studies

After putting one of the unsung heroes of KBB design in the spotlight in our recent lighting special, we’re showcasing two case studies from designers that make clever use of lighting and space…

Bathroom case study – Nasser Fahad, The London Bath Co.

Nasser Fahad, design director at The London Bath Co, explains why getting the lighting right was an essential ingredient for this bathroom design.

“We met the brief by removing the existing wall and extending the wall into the bedroom, re-skimming and painting.

“In addition to this we created a built-in bath across the back wall on entry to provide a functional solution, but we also created a bespoke illuminated bath panel to increase the ambient lighting within the room, in addition to making it all feel brighter. These are 4000k LED strips.

“Furthermore, we have gone for a wall hung HiB vanity unit with a push-to-open drawer box, decorative mirror from Origins Living and sconces from Pooky.

“Moreover, we chose to use large format 600mm x 1200mm Onyx White tiles on the wall to help minimise the grout and number of joints visible. We’ve also gone for porcelain wooden planks on the floor which vertically run into the bath fascia and niche to help create the illusion of a much larger room.

“Overall, the newly created room helps increase the existing space, provides more light, and also creates a much warmer atmosphere.”

Kitchen case study – Stacey Docherty, Regal Kitchens

How Stacey Docherty, designer at Regal Kitchens, enhanced this kitchen with a clever lighting scheme.

In this design by Stacey Docherty, from Regal Kitchens, the client had ambitious plans for her new kitchen and conducted extensive research online and through local retailers to carefully evaluate potential companies.

After reviewing positive feedback about Regal, she decided to visit the showroom to explore design ideas in person.

“Task lighting was a priority for her, as she owns a considerable amount of kitchen and baking equipment. It was essential not only to incorporate appropriate storage solutions that complemented the overall design but also to ensure that the kitchen was well-lit, both inside and outside the cabinets, to provide clear visibility when hosting family and friends.

“We are particularly proud of the oak finishes and integrated lighting details within the cabinetry, which harmonise with the room’s overall theme.

“Features such as motion sensor lighting in the corner larder and pantry, along with our recommendations for ceiling pendants and under-cabinet strip lighting, ensure optimal illumination for food preparation and enhance the kitchen’s functionality and aesthetic appeal.”
