Despite the current trend for serene, spa-like bathrooms, just over one-in-ten Brits feel like their own bathrooms are “luxurious”, according to new research.
In a recent survey of 2,000 UK adults conducted by bathroom manufacturer nuielux, only 13% of those polled said they found their own bathroom to be luxurious.
In fact, only two-in-five (37%) adults describe their bathroom as even “comfortable”. About half (47%) say that their bathroom is “practical”, and more than three-quarters (76%) admit that their bathroom isn’t stylish and doesn’t reflect their personal taste.
Despite this, two-in-five Brits (37%) say they aren’t looking to renovate their bathrooms – a statistic that rises to almost half (45%) for millennials.
Nuielux’s research also found that older homeowners struggled more than others to see the bathroom as a serene and restorative space, with over 65s being the most likely generation to say they “never relax in their bathroom”.
Younger bathroom users were much more likely to prioritise using the room for self-care, with almost a third (31%) using the bathroom space multiple times a week for personal time, and a quarter (23%) doing so once a week.
When asked what bathroom features they craved during a renovation, nuielux found that 37% saw rainfall showers as the most luxurious products they could want. This was followed by 28% that aspired to have heated towel rails, and 24% who wanted a freestanding bath.

In other bathroom research news, Houzz’s latest trend report found that around one-in-five of those who have completed a bathroom renovation recently chose to increase the size of their space by stealing space from an adjacent room.
