For over four decades, Sylvarna Kitchen Design has been a fixture on the south coast, crafting high-end kitchens with a personal touch. But as the market evolved and client expectations shifted, director Nick Street saw an opportunity to take the business to new heights through a partnership with renowned German brand Poggenpohl.
“We’ve only worked with a handful of suppliers. It was post-Covid when things were going a bit wild, as I’m sure everyone in the industry knows,” says Street. “We started to get a lot more requests for things that we weren’t quite set up to provide. There was more architectural involvement and interior design.”
Street was drawn to Poggenpohl’s reputation for design excellence. “I think of Poggenpohl more as a design company than a manufacturer. Design is at its core, so the team understand what architects want. They understand what details should be present throughout the whole of the kitchen – those finishing touches are what they do best. And you can tell a Poggenpohl kitchen as soon as you look at it.”
The partnership prompted a complete rethink of the Sylvarna showroom. “We went from having what was nine kitchen displays to having four, and that was because we wanted each one of those displays to read like a complete room,” explains Street.
So, what is the standout area of the showroom? “One Poggenpohl display kind of encompasses three different feelings within the range,” says Street.
“The +Modo stands alone in a lot of ways because it’s a very distinct piece. We chose to have it as a contrast. It’s a contrasting colour, it’s black, and is a real eye catcher when clients walk in. We have all that design language running through those displays”
As Street alludes to, client response to the Poggenpohl displays has been overwhelmingly positive: “When clients walk in, it’s like nothing they’ve seen before. It has distinguishing features that are aspirational.”
For the team at Sylvarna, the partnership with Poggenpohl has not only expanded their offering but also elevated their clients’ expectations – and their kitchens.
