KBB installation complaints down significantly year-on-year

Although their work still falls within the top ten most-complained-about home renovation categories, both kitchen and bathroom fitters received fewer consumer complaints in 2025 than in the year before, according to the Citizens Advice Service.

This information came from a freedom of information request submitted by Emperor Paint, whose request found that a total of 39,864 complaints were made to Citizens Advice in England regarding home maintenance and improvements in 2025.

Fitted kitchens were the sixth most complained about renovation category last year, with the Citizens Advice Service receiving 2,438 complaints throughout the year. Meanwhile, fitted bathrooms were the ninth most complained about renovation service, with 1,797 complaints being made in 2025.

However, although both categories still fall within the top ten list of renovation complaints, both categories have actually seen far fewer consumer complaints than the year previously.

For example, consumers made 2,852 complaints about fitted kitchens throughout 2024, marking a 14.5% decrease in issues year-on-year. Similarly, there were a total of 2,237 complaints made about fitted bathrooms in 2024, meaning their numbers are down by almost 20% from one year to the next.

Outside of just the KBB trades, roofing and chimney repairs were the most complained about renovation issue throughout 2025, with a massive total of 7,854 formal complaints received from consumers. This was followed by “lofts, conversions and extensions” with 4,336 complaints, and window frames and doors which received 3,879 consumer complaints. Plumbers and plumbing were the fourth most complained about category with 2,896 issues, which was followed by what the Citizens Advice Service calls “other general building work” which received 2,803 complaints in 2025.
