Grid Thirteen donates two family spaces to Overgate Hospice

Leeds-based design studio Grid Thirteen has designed and installed two new family living spaces completely free of charge, as part of Overgate Hospice’s Big Build Appeal.

The Appeal invited local businesses to lend their support to help expand and provide new facilities to Overgate Hospice’s new wings.

As a result of Grid Thirteen’s support, the two new living spaces will be used by families with a relative receiving palliative or end-of-life care at the hospice.

Grid Thirteen says it worked closely with Overgate Hospice and interior designer Elaine Lewis Designs on the design of the spaces, which were created to feel reassuring, considered and supportive, instead of clinical.

To create the new Family Lounge space, the studio partnered with SieMatic to provide kitchen cabinetry, with Quooker also providing Nordic Twin Taps so so visitors can make instant hot drinks, alongside filtered cold water. The space also features a round dining table and chairs, as well as a framed media wall to allow families to enjoy movie nights.

“Our Lounge & Snug Family Rooms are designed to uphold dignity and comfort,” explained Natalie Fry, studio director at Grid Thirteen. “As a studio, this project is deeply personal to us. It’s about giving back to our home community and supporting the extraordinary, compassionate work the hospice delivers every day.”

Laura Golding, director of income generation at Overgate Hospice, also said: “We are incredibly grateful to Grid Thirteen Design Studio and their partners for their generous support of the Big Build Appeal.

“To have the design and fitting of these important spaces provided completely free of charge is truly amazing and will make a real difference to what we are able to deliver for patients and families in our new hospice. Their kindness and commitment will help create warm and welcoming environments where families can find comfort and patients can feel cared for with dignity.”

Grid Thirteen is also set to continue its support of the hospice into the new year, with plans to complete a new wellbeing room in January 2027. Designed to “restore comfort, dignity and a sense of normality”, the new wellbeing room will include a hair washing facility with a backwash sink as well as a dedicated nail station for manicures and pedicures.

In related news, Grid Thirteen Design Studio also celebrated its namesake 13th anniversary earlier this year. Creative director Natalie Fry is also the subject of this month’s One Last Thing interview in the October 2026 issue of kbbreview Magazine.
