CDA tops ethical ratings across four major appliance categories

CDA has achieved the highest ethical ratings across cookers, dishwashers, fridge freezers and washing machines, according to independent research by The Good Shopping Guide, reinforcing its commitment to responsible business practices.

CDA is celebrating a significant achievement after being recognised as the leading brand across four major domestic appliance categories in The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Ratings Tables.

The latest results follow the publication of the updated Cookers Ethical Ratings Table, where CDA achieved an impressive GSG Score of 91, the highest score among the 27 brands assessed. CDA finished ahead of its parent company, Amica, which scored 85, and Logik, which achieved 81. Just 12 of the 27 brands assessed reached The Good Shopping Guide’s ethical benchmark.

The achievement means CDA now holds the leading position across four key appliance categories: cookers, dishwashers, fridge freezers and washing machines.

Established in 2001, The Good Shopping Guide is an independent ethical research and ratings organisation that helps consumers make more informed purchasing decisions. It researches the ethical records of hundreds of brands across a wide range of sectors, publishing its findings through independently researched ratings tables.

Its assessments consider a broad range of criteria, including environmental responsibility, animal welfare, human rights and wider corporate conduct. The latest research introduces two additional criteria covering packaging and irresponsible marketing, including greenwashing, reflecting the increasing importance of transparency and accountability from businesses.

CDA has successfully completed The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Accreditation process, with its ethical credentials fully endorsed through the organisation’s ETHICAL mark. This provides independent recognition of the company’s ethical standards and gives consumers an additional point of reference when comparing appliance brands.

Mark Taylor, Head of Innovation, Quality and Technical Services at CDA, said:

“Achieving the highest ethical ratings across four major appliance categories is a fantastic endorsement of the standards we set ourselves as a business. We believe responsibility goes beyond the products we manufacture. It encompasses the decisions we make, the partners we work with and the support we provide to customers throughout the lifetime of their appliances.

“Independent recognition from The Good Shopping Guide is particularly valuable because it demonstrates that our commitment is being assessed against clear, established criteria. We’re incredibly proud of this achievement and remain focused on ensuring that quality, responsibility and customer confidence sit at the heart of everything we do.”

The recognition reflects CDA’s wider commitment to responsible business practices, customer service and product longevity. The company provides UK-based customer support, employs its own engineers and offers a Lifetime Parts Warranty on eligible CDA appliances, supporting customers beyond their initial purchase and encouraging a repair-first approach.

As scrutiny of environmental and ethical claims continues to increase, independent accreditation provides an important way for consumers to identify brands whose credentials have been assessed against established criteria. CDA’s achievement across four appliance categories reinforces its commitment to maintaining high ethical standards throughout its business.

Saniflo marks World Toilet Day with sanitation project at Indian care home

To mark World Toilet Day on 19 November, Saniflo is highlighting a project in India that demonstrates how effective wastewater management can make a real difference to the health, hygiene and living conditions of vulnerable communities.

Through its Indian subsidiary, SFA Group has donated and installed a Sanicubic 2 Classic lifting station at Sant Claret Anath Ashram, a charitable care home in Badlapur, near Mumbai, which provides accommodation, meals and medical care for nearly 250 vulnerable people.

The centre offers shelter and support to elderly, sick and bedridden individuals, as well as people receiving end-of-life care. Many residents have been taken in from the streets, railway station platforms, or after discharge from hospital. Since late 2025, the centre has also welcomed more women, with nearly 40 now among its residents.

The facility previously relied on an open septic tank, which presented significant sanitation challenges, including unpleasant odours, mosquito infestations, unsanitary conditions and the risk of wastewater being discharged into the surrounding environment.

Following a site visit, technicians from SFA India recommended the Sanicubic 2 Classic, a freestanding lifting station designed to collect and pump greywater and wastewater where conventional gravity drainage is not possible.

Equipped with two motors that operate alternately, the Sanicubic 2 Classic now collects wastewater from six toilets and two washbasins and pumps it into the existing drainage network, eliminating the need for an open septic tank and providing a more reliable, hygienic solution for the facility.

SFA India supplied the unit and provided technical expertise for the installation, working alongside its partner installer. The team also provides ongoing maintenance to help ensure reliable long-term operation.

Father Robin Abraham, director of Sant Claret Anath Ashram, confirms the positive impact of the installation:

“The pump is working very well and we have not encountered any problems since it was installed. It ensures the regular and reliable disposal of wastewater. Your generosity and commitment provide invaluable support to our centre.”

The donation was facilitated through Dr Kiran Pandit of the Gurukrupa Foundation and forms part of SFA Group’s longstanding commitment to improving access to sanitation.

Since extending its charitable initiatives internationally in 2016, following earlier projects in France, SFA Group has supported sanitation programmes in countries including Cambodia, Senegal and India. Between 2023 and 2025, its contributions helped improve sanitation and living conditions in around ten Indian schools, benefiting approximately 900 pupils.

The Sant Claret project represents a further development in this commitment, combining the company’s technical expertise and products to address a specific sanitation challenge directly.

World Toilet Day, a United Nations observance held annually on 19 November, highlights the importance of safe sanitation and the continuing global challenge of ensuring access to adequate toilet facilities.

For Saniflo, whose history dates back to the invention of the original Sanibroyeur in 1958, the project illustrates how practical wastewater management solutions can contribute to safer, healthier environments and improve quality of life for some of society’s most vulnerable people.

Bathroom Association conference raises more than £5,600 for CRASH

The Bathroom Association’s 2026 Connect Conference has raised £5,685.96 for CRASH, the construction industry charity supporting homelessness charities and hospices with vital building projects.

The money was raised during the gala dinner at the Grand Hotel, Birmingham, following the Association’s annual conference on 8 October.

Vipesh Mistry, Head of Projects at CRASH, gave a short but powerful presentation during the evening, explaining how the charity draws on the expertise, products and generosity of the construction industry to create safe and caring places for people experiencing homelessness and those receiving hospice care.

His presentation brought the purpose of the fundraising into sharp focus and encouraged guests to support the raffle and auction generously.

Businesses and individuals who donated prizes, along with everyone who bought raffle tickets and placed bids during the evening, made the final total possible.

Daphne Doody-Green, Chief Executive at the Bathroom Association, said: “Vipesh’s presentation proved to be a powerful moment of the gala dinner. He explained CRASH’s work and helped everyone in the room understand where their money would go and the difference their support could make.

“The response was immediate. Our guests bought raffle tickets, bid generously in the auction and helped us reach a final total of £5,685.96.

“That result also depended on the businesses and individuals who donated such an impressive selection of prizes. Every donation, ticket and bid contributed, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who played a part.”

Trisha Pickersgill, Chief Executive at CRASH, said: “A huge thank you to the Bathroom Association, its members, supporters and gala dinner guests for raising £5,685.96 for CRASH.

“Vipesh sees first-hand the challenges facing the homelessness charities and hospices we support, and we are grateful that he had the opportunity to share the importance of this work with guests at the dinner.

“The money raised will help us provide charities with access to the specialist expertise, construction products and financial support they need to improve their buildings and create places that care for people.”

CRASH has been the UK construction industry’s charity since 1996. It helps charities navigate the complex and costly process of construction by bringing together professional expertise, building products and donations from across the industry.

The Bathroom Association’s Connect Conference brought together professionals from across the bathroom supply chain for a day of insight, discussion and networking. The gala dinner also hosted the 2026 Thirty-under-Thirty Awards, sponsored by Ideal Bathrooms, recognising talented young people making an impact across the sector.

Grant Westfield’s Calum Brown raises £2,447 for Action for M.E.

Calum Brown, Production Engineer at Grant Westfield, has raised £2,447 for Action for M.E. after completing the Edinburgh Marathon in under three hours.

The 26.2-mile challenge saw Calum achieve a personal goal, finishing in 2 hours, 59 minutes and 52 seconds, just eight seconds under his target.

Calum ran in support of Action for M.E. following his wife Ella’s diagnosis with myalgic encephalomyelitis (M.E.) two years ago. A chronic, fluctuating condition, M.E. can cause debilitating fatigue, pain, sleep problems and cognitive difficulties, with severe cases leaving people bedbound.

Keen to raise both funds and awareness, Calum also pledged to donate £1 for every mile he trained from the beginning of 2026, contributing £550 towards the total.

Calum said: “It was an honour and a privilege to represent Action for M.E. That run was for all of the people living with M.E. out there.”

A lifelong runner, Calum had previously attempted a marathon in 2021 but was inspired to take on the distance again in recent years. The achievement was an emotional one, as he explained: “I was so overwhelmed with happiness at the end I cried four times on my way home, including in the car park when a kind citizen offered me an ice lolly.”
