Kitchen and bedroom carcass manufacturer Lamtek has announced ambitious plans to “more than double” its annual turnover, following an investment into a new manufacturing site at its Nottinghamshire headquarters.
First established back in 1989, trade-only supplier Lamtek works with distributors, merchants, developers, and retailers across the UK and overseas. Its signature product is its Rapid Cab cam, pin and dowel pre-insertion system, which the company says allows a single unit to be assembled in under two minutes.
The kitchen and bedroom manufacturer recently completed the acquisition of a neighbouring warehouse unit, effectively increasing its production space to over 125,000 sq ft.
Lamtek’s directors say the business has spent considerable time and money converting the building into a state of the art manufacturing centre to complement its existing facilities.
As part of this, the company says it has invested heavily into the site, which included installing a new Biomass Wood Waste heating system and new machinery to significantly increase its production capabilities and improve its carbon footprint.
Prior to the investment, Lamtek says it was able to produce around 5,000 kitchen units each week. However, the company now estimates its capacity has increased to between 10,000 to 12,000 units per week on just one shift.
Speaking exclusively to kbbreview about the plans, Lamtek managing director Nik Teal said: “The plan is to use what we’ve got now to double our turnover over the next few years. We know that’s ambitious, but we’ve got the machinery, staff, and the premises to do that, so there’s no reason why we can’t.”
“We’ve invested the better part of £8m in a new factory and new machinery, so growth is what we’re looking at. We’re currently seeing around £8m in turnover annually, but I’d like to see that increase to around £20m within the next 2 years”.
Production director Steve Brett also commented: “The growth that we’re starting to see has really opened doors for us, and we have now started to enter new markets such as student accommodation, hotel refits and contract work. We’ve got a huge amount of machining capacity now, and ample space, so we’re looking to make the most of that to really grow our business.”
Discussing the company’s plans over the next few years, Brett also added: “Historically, we’ve actually been quite quiet in the wider market. We’re well-known for what we do among our existing clients, and we’ve been happy to mostly keep ourselves to ourselves up until last year. Now though, we’re making a real effort to increase our marketing presence – and we’ve taken on a new sales and marketing director, Tom Clews, and a marketing executive, Niamh Logan– so the industry will be hearing a lot more from Lamtek going forwards”.
