‘Statement appliances on the rise,’ says Gorenje

Statement appliances are in hot demand, according to appliance manufacturer Gorenje.

Over the last 12 months, demand has “skyrocketed” for appliances such as the limited-edition VW campervan-inspired OBRB153BL refrigerator (pictured) in its Retro Collection, Gorenje claimed.

It also noted an increased interest in classic aesthetics, such as traditional-style ovens, hobs and cookers in its Classico Collection.

The manufacturer has attributed the growing demand to a move away from contemporary trends in favour of statement pieces that reflect the homeowner’s personality.

This has also been impacted by improvement in the economy, it argued, which has helped to restore consumer confidence in home improvement and investment.

Stuart Benson, sales director of Gorenje UK, commented: “Retro appliances have been on the rise for the last few years now, but throughout 2017, they’ve really made a comeback.

“We’ve attributed our increase in sales to current interior trends, which have swayed towards retro and classic styles, but it’s really the improvement of the housing market and economy that’s allowed customers to be confident when it comes to investing in these trends in their own homes.

“I think the fact our fridge freezers featured in popular cooking programmes, such as The Great British Bake Off, not only helped boost the appeal of our products, but of the retro style in general.”

He added: “The launch of our campervan-inspired limited-edition refrigerator has been a great example of consumer interest in this trend. The appliance has been of massive interest to so many more people than expected – from media interest to product showcasing success at motor festivals.”
