Whirlpool gets smarter at CES show

Appliance manufacturer Whirlpool has unveiled its latest smart appliances at this year’s CES in Las Vegas (January 9-12).

The appliances, which include the Smart Front Control Range and Smart Over the Range Microwave with Scan-to-Cook technology, have been designed to help families live “smarter”.

They feature an integrated cooking app, Yummly, to deliver a personalised cooking experience. Users are able to control the Smart Range through the Yummly app to integrate recipes and cooking functionality on one platform.

The Smart All-In-One Washer and Dryer, which was also revealed at the show, can be set to begin drying once a wash cycle is complete.

Whirlpool has also announced collaborations with Google, Amazon and Apple, with users able to use voice recognition to control the Whirlpool kitchen line-up via the Google Home assistant or Amazon Alexa.

Users will also be able to use Amazon Virtual Dash on the connected refrigerator line-up, allowing them to order ingredients or supplies using the LCD touch-screens.

In addition, Apple Watch users will be able to set up alert notifications for the Smart All-in-One Washer and Dryer, which will notify users when a laundry load is finished.

“We want our appliances to create simplicity for families throughout their various day-to-day tasks,” said Jennifer Tayebi, communications brand manager at Whirlpool. “From integrating appliances with Yummly to voice-controlled commands, families can experience a smarter way to help care for each other.”
