Fiesta holds northern skills conference

The Furniture and Interiors Education, Skills and Training Alliance (Fiesta) is hosting a Closing the Gap conference to promote how companies can access funded training and apprenticeships.

The half-day event will be held on March 18 at the Cedar Court Hotel, Bradford.

During the day, attendees will be given an overview of the current situation for both [apprenticeship] levy- and non-levy paying businesses. They will also be provided with information on broader issues such as the Government’s new plans for a points-based immigration system.

The sessions will focus on how businesses recruit, train and retain staff. Speakers from manufacturers will provide case studies on how they have introduced an apprentice process in their businesses and the benefits this has brought, and highlight the potential issues that may need to be overcome.

Speakers will include Gary Baker, managing director of CDUK and chairman of Fiesta, Carmen Daley, operations manager of the Apprentice Management Group and Martin James, commercial director of Didac. Plus, representatives from Carlick Contract Furniture, DFS, Callerton Kitchens and Interiors and Croft and Assinder.

Fiesta will also go through details of its Skill Plus service that has solutions to accessing funded training programmes and working with training providers.
