BiKBBI announces certification scheme for KBB installation

The AiM (Accredited Installation Methods) is designed to set, acknowledge and elevate the standards of installation services across the KBB retail and construction sectors.

The objective is to create a recognised industry standard that reduces risk, demonstrates credibility, and provides quality assurance to all stakeholders involved in the KBB installation process – retailers, their people, installers and consumers.

Running alongside the BiKBBI’s (British Institute of Kitchen, Bedroom and Bathroom Installation) registration programme for individual installers, the scheme is open to businesses of all sizes – small independent or large national – that employ or contract installers.

BiKBBI defines that as “businesses that install full kitchen, bedroom and bathroom settings, work surfaces, and those responsible for appliance installation including showers, specialist taps, tiles and wall panelling, flooring, lighting, white goods and under floor heating.”

AiM will assess a company’s methodology of installation including compliance, contractor relationships, welfare, health & safety, installation delivery, consumer proposition, contracts and terms, and service levels.

Damian Walters, BiKBBI CEO commented: “AiM is another piece of a complex jigsaw that will contribute to positive change within the industry and indeed the raising of standards. For the first time, we have a robust mechanism to not only acknowledge those businesses who deliver a compelling installation service, but also to those who would benefit from advice, guidance and support in the development of their proposition.

“AiM will help businesses and brands to develop their service, maximising commercial opportunities, whilst at the same time reducing risk. This will be a game-changer for our industry and its success will be reliant on the industry embracing and supporting this progression.”

In addition to the AIM scheme, the not-for-profit institution also announced that it will be heading up a new government “interior systems super sector forum” for trade competencies around fitted KBB products.

This means BiKBBI will be working with government and strategic industry bodies on a variety of issues. The collaboration will make changes that align more closely to established building regs, which BiKBBI believes will affect the KBB industry.
