Bisque to launch radiator design competition in July

UK radiator brand Bisque has announced it will launch a competition for budding designers to come up with ‘the next big thing’ for its newest model.

The #radical40 competition to mark its 40th year will be previewed at Clerkenwell Design Week later this month before officially launching at London’s New Designers’ show in July. The final deadline for entries will be in October.

All designs must include a flow, return and a space for the air vent – key things for a radiator to function.

Entrants will be judged by a panel of industry experts, including journalists, designers and Bisque officials, before the winning model is unveiled during an exclusive preview in November.

This isn’t the first time Bisque has provided such an opportunity for aspiring talent.

A similar competition back in 2012 resulted in the creation of the brand’s Archibald towel rail, a coat hanger-inspired design by Leo Salzedo that is still available.

“This year, the brief is to produce something even more radical and dramatic,” the firm said.

It said it was looking for ideas that are “an appropriate acknowledgement of its revolutionary beginnings, and in keeping with its daring, sometimes audacious design approach”.

The winning designer will receive £1,000 in prize money.
