Thunderbolts are go: Simon Taylor’s 4,000-mile charity rally drive

Simon Taylor, MD of Simon Taylor Furniture, is putting on his driving gloves in readiness for the Back and Fourth Rally – a 4,000 mile 24-hour open-top drive across Europe.

The epic drive will aim to raise funds for Orchid – the charity that raises awareness of testicular and other male cancers. Taylor (pictured right) will be aided and abetted in his attempt by his friend Alan Hunt (pictured left), MD of County Construction.

All team names are themed on Marvel Comics and theirs will be Thunderbolts.

The rally is in its fourth year and the trip will start in Calais on September 16 and end in Amsterdam on September 22, with participants having driven there via Rome, Athens, Zagreb, Sofia, Bucharest and Vienna.

The rules of the rally stipulate that they have to drive for 24 hours a day in a Mini Cooper convertible with full MOT purchased for less than £1,000 and they must drive with the soft top down for the entire trip – rain or shine.

The duo purchased their burnt orange Mini in July and are seeking sponsorship from businesses through their Just Giving fund-raising page.

Said Taylor: “We are very pleased to be taking part in the Back and Fourth Rally, which will be challenging to say the least, but it is for a very good cause: Orchid is an inspirational charity that raises awareness of male cancers. Too many of us know someone close to us who has been affected by cancer, and every penny we can raise will go towards helping save lives in the future.”
