Winners unveiled for Lockdown Special design contest

The winners of the kbbreview competition launched especially for designers stuck at home during lockdown have been revealed.

Designers had to follow a conceptual brief that saw a family of four looking for a new kitchen, master en-suite and kids’ bathroom for their converted lighthouse. There was also a treehouse in the garden that needed a kitchen and living space.

The contest has two categories, one for Concept Design of the Year and another for Under-16s Concept Design of the Year.

The design judges from the kbbreview Retail & Design Awards 2020 awards returned and chose their top five kitchen, top five bathrooms and top five under-16s.

They then picked two overall winners – one for the grown-ups and one for the Under 16s.

The winners will receive an official trophy identical to those given out at the full ceremony held back at the start of March as well as an amazing pool of top prizes donated by suppliers and brands.

The winner was revealed in a special video with Taylist Media managing editor Andrew Davies and special guest TV presenter Steph McGovern – who hosted the kbbreview Retail & Design Awards 2019 in Manchester.

Ten-year-old Hannah Hunt won the Under-16s Concept Design of the Year with a fantastic scheme for the treehouse. You can Hannah explain see the full project by clicking here

But the overall winner of the Concept Design of the Year was Scott Lawrence from Yeo Design and his amazing kitchen concept – and you can see that full project by clicking here

There was also a special mention for the top bathroom design, which came from Jayne Hiddleston from Hiddleston Joiners – her full project can be seen by clicking here.

“I’ve never know judges find it so difficult to pick finalist and winners, there was such creativity and commitment on show that this whole contest was a joy from start to finish,” said Taylist Media managing editor Andrew Davies. “Huge congratulations to Scott, Hannah and Jayne, but the whole point of this competition was to keep spirits and up and creative juices flowing at a time when positivity was in short supply.

“So thank you to everyone who entered, the companies that donated prizes and everyone else who just followed along. I think it kept us all a little bit saner.”
