Yorkshire-based kitchen manufacturer Moores has named the Yorkshire Air Ambulance as its charity of the year.
Moores says that the charity was selected after a company-wide vote. The Yorkshire Air Ambulance was said to be the clear favourite with staff, as many members of the Moores team have witnessed its lifesaving work first-hand.
The charity provides rapid healthcare response to people across Yorkshire, with the charity operating two helicopters that reportedly cost over £19,000 a day to run.
Moores says it has set up a committee dedicated to organising fundraising activities throughout the year, with the aim of raising as much money as possible. Over the next 12 months, the committee has planned a series of fundraising schemes, from recycling programmes to internal competitions, athletic challenges and raffles.
Sarah Murray, a member of Moores’ Customer Care team, has personally experienced the lifesaving work that the Yorkshire Air Ambulance does on a daily basis. She explained: “In September 2019 I was marshalling for the Wetherby 10K run. A man had collapsed and wasn’t breathing, so I called the emergency number and a few moments later a medic arrived with a defibrillator.
“An ambulance then arrived, but by this point it was quicker and safer for the air ambulance to take him to hospital. Without the YAA and their professional team, the man could have died.”
Julie Holliday, Moores’ retail channel and marketing director, added: “Charity partnerships form a big part of our internal marketing calendar each year. Yorkshire Air Ambulance was a clear favourite with our team, so we’re really looking forward to the year ahead. There is plenty of fun in the pipeline for everyone to enjoy, all while helping to raise funds for an essential local cause.”
Earlier this year, Moores also held its annual internal awards, which celebrated the achievements of its longest-serving members of staff.
