Showroom of the Month: Ripples, Walton-on-Thames
One of two new Ripples showrooms to open this summer, the newest addition to Walton-on-Thames’ high street is hoping to make a real splash with the locals
Although a part of the ever-growing Ripples empire, showroom co-owner Sivam Samji has a very specific vision for his studio.
“I’ve been in the industry for 11 years, but predominantly in the inclusivity and accessibility sector, although still in the mid to high end market. I’ve always been changing the perception that accesibility isn’t just things like clinical-looking plastic grab rails. I really want this showroom to play a big part in bringing that through to the mainstream retail market.”
As a proof of concept, towards the back of the showroom, there is a luxurious accessible display featuring support rails and a shower seat, but crucially, they can be folded out of the way or even completely removed for users.
“I’m a big believer that environmental design can actually positively impact someone’s health and wellbeing,” Samji explains, “We’ve got an ageing population in the UK who have these amazing homes, and I want to show them that if they want to update their living spaces, things don’t have to look like a hospital.”
In fact, subtle accessible touches appear like a motif throughout the whole space, but still always tied in with that trademark Ripples touch: bold colours and flair for aesthetics.
On the lefthand side of the space – which Samji calls “the showstopper” display – is a contemporary display with full height granite-effect slabs, bespoke double basins in a marble shade, and a shower area with a bespoke fluted glass screen. Inside, there’s a luxurious double his-and-hers shower with a bench.
Similarly, in what Samji admits is a favourite display of his, is another bathroom suite featuring matt black sanitaryware with a matching basin, funky-looking mosaic tiles, and a bespoke bench with a glass partition artfully cut around it.
“We really want to be unique, and stand out with our customer-first approach,” he explains. “I firmly believe that’s all about getting a really good understanding of who our customers are, how they use a space, and then building it from there. Really having them be involved in the journey as much as they want.
“After all, the move invested they are in the design process, the happier they’ll be with their bathroom once it’s finished – so it’s win-win for everyone!
