Victorian Plumbing reports record rises in sales and profits

Online bathroom retailer Victorian Plumbing has posted its full-year results for 2019, with record sales of £151.7 million – an increase of 28% over the previous 12 months. Profits jumped 188.6% to £10.1m.

With record sales in the 12 months to September 30, 2019, Victorian Plumbing said it is now positioned as the largest bathroom retailer in the UK. The company said it regarded this as a significant achievement in what has been a difficult year for the bathroom industry, amid the buyouts and administrations suffered by competitors.

In 2019, Better Bathrooms went into administration and was subsequently bought out by Buy it Direct. Bathstore also went into administration and is now is operating with limited stores and concessions will soon be open within Homebase, which now owns the company.

Mark Radcliffe, managing director of Victorian Plumbing (pictured), said brand awareness was one of the main reasons for its success, seeing an increase on last year with 54% of all UK adults recognising the brand, compared with 50% in 2018.

This increase, he said, was achieved in part by a new advertising campaign, which saw Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen featured as the brand’s star employee.

Mr Radcliffe said: “I’m really pleased to stop and assess what we have achieved, from humble beginnings in a garden shed to the largest UK bathroom retailer. It’s a real testament to the team’s efforts and relentless pursuit of perfection

“It’s been a year when competitors have pointed the finger at a variety of factors, such as the housing market, Brexit and consumer confidence, but the fact that we’ve succeeded where they haven’t shows that it’s our staff and people that make the difference.”

He added: “We constantly aim to be better than the competition in all areas with exciting targets set by the teams and so much care and pride throughout. I’m really excited about the future of Victorian Plumbing, with much more still to come.”
